The Probably Stolen rent survival guide starts with keeping the next payment out of risky trades: unpaid rent lowers your shop's attractiveness, customer traffic and revenue. Buying out the shop is the long-term objective. The October 28 full release adds the ending where you purchase and own the store; the August playtest did not yet have a purchase option.

Probably Stolen rent survival guide: the cycle
Rent rises over time even if the previous week went well. The problem is a feedback loop: missing a payment reduces attractiveness, which means fewer customers and less income for the next payment. Your first decision before buying any expensive stock is whether the remaining cash still covers the next rent shown in your game.
Read the rent countdown and amount in your current save.
Keep that amount separate from money available for stock and upgrades.
Before a costly purchase, ask whether the item could be confiscated, fail inspection or remain unsold until rent is due.
If the answer is yes and the purchase would consume the reserve, choose a smaller trade or wait for revenue from existing stock.
Protect the next rent payment
Goods are not worth their asking price just because a seller says so. Rare products need a proper appraisal; water needs testing and filtering, and weapons can bring inspections. When a quote looks profitable only if every assumption is correct, use the item appraisal checklist before spending the money earmarked for rent.
A practical check is to compare cash after purchase with the next rent shown in the save. If cash after purchase falls short, the trade is using your survival buffer. That does not make every risky trade wrong, but it changes the decision you are making.
Probably Stolen how to buy the store
The shop buyout is the game's long-term goal. The current demo has no shop-purchase control; the October 28 full release adds the ending where you buy and own the store. In the demo, keep paying rent and use the visible objective as a progress marker. Do not spend rent cash trying to trigger a purchase before the full release.
